Spellbound architecture

Standing on the banks of the Garonne, La Cité du Vin also deserves much-appreciated mention because of its spellbinding architecture. It is built in a swirling form which is inspired by the swirl of wine in a glass and the coils of a grapevine. Shining golden from the furthest of the site, the shimmering structure, which took 80,000 hours and more than 1,000 tons of steel to build, will let your head twist at every angle to see its bold curves. Gazing over the river Garrone, this stunning 10-storey structure offers a panoramic 360-degree view of the city from the bar on the top floor.

Exciting things to do

Under the giant 144,000-square-foot complex, you can learn, taste, drink and even buy the wine. You can also choose to attend the on-going workshops or even take a simulated boat ride to feel like a sea merchant sailing and selling wine across the globe. La Cité du Vin also houses two exciting restaurants, one offering dishes made from the seasonal local produce, while the other boasts 800 bottles of wine with some special-seeming tapas. Tickets to this wine-themed park start at around INR 1800 per head. For more information visit the site.
