BURBERRY FALL 2019: AN ENGLISH MEDLEY OF CONTRASTS

Fashion

Designed around the cultural heterogeneity of England, it’s got as much punk as it has beige

Riccardo Tisci’s Tempest is a representation of England as a country that has old and new, sophistication and punk, conformism and rebellion all co-existing in harmony. While there are plenty of beiges to conform to the evolved tastes of a woman who prizes timeless elegance, there’s also a slew of baseball and rugby inspired clothing to appeal to the feisty spirit of the young buyer. Let’s explore what Burberry has for each of us.

Blankets stitched at the backs of coats | Plush, powerful and incredibly innovative – this design is sure to make waves next fall. We love it in all the avatars Burberry has presented: prints, fringes and solid colours.

Women in ties | Next winter might see us going Edwardian in our sartorial choices with the comeback of the tie for women. We’d love to introduce the accessory to our wardrobe and wield it when power dressing is on the agenda.

Plenty of leather | The collection has several finely tailored leather pieces that you can take to work and other occasions that solicit smart dressing.

Buttoned panels | The buttoned panels on skirts, coats and the pinafore dress above are quite a highlight of the collection – and make for a very polished aesthetic indeed.

Burberry’s classic plaid | We can never fall out of love with that beige plaid – and this time round, it’s making quite a statement with its pea green companion.

Pea green skirt suits | The colour and silhouette are clearly the 60s in play – with the addition of Tisci’s unique detailing on the lapel and the collection’s quintessential tie.

Sequin and chain embellished | Neutrals get their share of bling with all-over sequins and the chain detailing along the edges. While we’re open to experimenting with a sequined blouse, beanie or coat, wearing them all together could possibly be a bit too much: what do you think?

Long and flowy | The billowy silhouettes and fine silks, paired beautifully with those ornate metallic flats, paint an undeniably charming picture.

For the Burberry girl | Dresses fashioned out of rugby shirts, baseball jackets made edgier with patent leather, the corset-jacket hybrid (top centre), and hints of sleepleisure peeping out through lace details on hems and necklines: a significant section of Burberry’s 2019 Fall collection is dedicated to the young girl aspiring to be a Burberry woman.

What part of the Tempest resonates the most with you? Are you looking forward to wearing ties – is an embellished coat on your wish-list – or do you fancy wearing the ‘younger’ pieces of the collection just like we do?
