Lady Gaga has been missing in action for some time now, even cutting short her Joanne tour earlier this year. While Mother Monster continues to make her appearance on our playlists, it is mind boggling to realise that “Bad Romance” was released as early as 2011! Gaga’s recent appearances have been sans meat dress and over-the-top dramatics, keeping us on tenterhooks, nonetheless.
Her October cover for Vogue revels in the image makeover, a stripped down version of the star whose first Vogue appearance included a pink wig, vampy lips and white eyebrows. In the cover shot, photographed by Inez and Vinoodh, Gaga wears a black Brandon Maxwell dress, Ana Khouri earrings, a platinum bob and nothing else.
This is Gaga, raw and exposed, no longer hiding behind the theatrics of makeup and costume. Within the pages of the October issue, the singer is seen at her most natural, lounging in a tub, on a picnic blanket and in a backstage setting. She’s also been channeling old Hollywood glamour in her red carpet appearances wearing Valentino Couture, Alaïa, Armani Privé and Ralph & Russo Couture.
Currently doing the media rounds to promote her film “A Star is Born”, Gaga opens up in her Vogue interview with Jonathan Van Meter about her struggles with fame and the painful disease that has changed her life - fibromyalgia. The October 5 release will witness yet another chapter in Gaga’s transformation as a movie star in the Bradley Cooper directed flick. While we can’t wait for this revival of the cult classic, starring Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland in previous versions, we are over the moon to hear Gaga’s dulcet tones once more.
It is not just the movie that brings Gaga back into social media circulation but also her continued position as muse to one of fashion’s most reclusive designers - Hedi Slimane. Gaga has always been close to the former creative head of Saint Laurent, being the first celebrity in 2012 to wear a full look from its SS13 collection. The relationship, founded when he photographed her for “The Fame Monster” album cover, has continued with Gaga also debuting a black leather handbag from Celine’s latest collection, which is now headed by Slimane, at the Louvre, Paris.
We can’t wait for the release of “A Star is Born”; if the buzz is to be believed, this is one to watch for the upcoming Oscar nominations. There’s no denying the lady’s got superstar moves!
