On their design philosophy that forms a communication with the wearer
Two is better than one, they say. Abraham and Thakore have exemplified the statement and how! With their iconic designs and a design philosophy (which works equally well for life) they have carved a niche for themselves both in the domestic and international fashion circuit. So what makes them tick? Here’s what the men-wonders have to say.
David Abraham worked as a designer for an American RTW company before starting Abraham & Thakore with Rakesh Thakore who had worked primarily in the Indian handloom sector. We launched our brand with a small loungewear and accessories collection in London at The Conran Shop.
Our sensibilities and design philosophy are a core part of the brand. Each season we investigate design issues that concern us, this results in a fresh interpretation of our design concerns and interests such as craft and handloom.
When one strips away excess ornamentation one is left with the basic form. Superficial surface treatment sometime detracts from the beauty of a fabric. We believe it is possible to say something quite powerfully using a reduced vocabulary.
Our home collection is often an extension of concepts explored in our fashion line. Our collection focuses on the bedroom primarily and consists of bed covers, throws, cushions and coordinating loungewear.
We have worked with the Ikat technique from the inception of the company. Some of our signature designs in double ikat are bold black and white geometrics. We have used these in garments, saris and accessories.
She is independent, and is not obsessed with trends. She respects the past, but is curious about the future.
Movies, music, books. Travel of course, and we particularly enjoy short trips with our circle of close friends which we try to make as often as our schedules permit.
